Why not just put ads or affiliate links instead of charging users?

We tested that — but here's why it doesn't work: Most users ignore affiliate links, ads generate extremely low revenue in niche communities, many people hate ads (including us!) and use blockers. Paid access is the only sustainable way to keep developing MODDS.WACTH and adding new watches.
